Salary and Benefits The starting salary for a Capitol Police Officer upon appointment (excluding overtime and incentive pay) is $53,322 going up incrementally to $61,265. The average work week consists of forty (40) hours. Capitol Police Officers may be required to work holidays and weekends. Upon appointment as a member of the Rhode Island Capitol Police, members are eligible for the following benefits: Health Insurance (Health care coverage is contributory in nature. A co-share of the medical premium is required for participation in coverage. Upon retirement, Department members are eligible for health insurance benefits with a required co-share equal to the premium co-share percentage applicable as of the date of retirement.) Dental Insurance Prescription Service Vision Care Life Insurance Uniforms and equipment are furnished by the Department. Upon appointment, Capitol Police Officers receive an annual clothing allowance of $875. To ensure the proper performance of professional duties and obligations, the Department may direct and authorize overtime. There are ten (10) official State holidays per calendar year.
